finally.

my 1st big semestral project at the new school: 120 metres high skycraper for Astor Place, Manhattan (near to Soho, almost next to the new Sanaa's New Museum of Contemporary Art).

the main idea is to create a "vertical city in a city", a shell for inside houses, skycraper with functional parks, shops and streets, a working organism. to allow to build building inside the building, even by other architects. every window is 15 or 30 metres high and there's a park and house(s) inside, with very narrow streets between them, going to the inside vertical communication. there is so much to say about it, it took me hundreds of hours of work, designing, thinking it over and over again, but I guess nobody is really reading these comments too closely anyway, especially not when it's too long, so simply if you want to know anything more about it, ask me. Otherwise, just try to enjoy the shape and exterior design, take it as a sculpture in the city, only knowing it's also functional.

i love the idea of buildings inside a building. You have inspired me for my thesis proposal! i maybe would propose a vertical street of houses as opposed from those condominium type buildings, which i hate. it'd be nice to still have a house with a front yard in the midst of the congestion in the city.

you have given me my epiphany! i love you!

yes, I still like the idea a lot, I hope I'll be able to build something like that one day, even in much smaller size...

It is a functional sculpture ... I really think it is very interesting ... window panels 15-30m wow ... Will it reflect the functions inside of it? hierarchy of different facilities? Is it like a concrete skyscraper with glass window panels? I think the materials are debatable though ...

yes, I must say I see good architecture as "functional sculptures", I love when the buildings look good and interesting, not only work well, I'm not a big fan of functionalism ideas and approach, i think it's over allready. Yes, the functions... it's all on the presentation, but the pictures are too small :( in real the paper had 1x3 meters, it's hard to make a deviantart-sized presentation which works out of it. there are shops, houses, offices, parks, even a big swimming pool and restaurant... but actually the point was to leave some freedom of what and where will be at the end, this had to make it "living", more like real city.

yes, glass panels are huge, there would be used a special system of wires which holds them in place without creating a large construction around... it would be expensive, but it works. the rest is perforated concrete: concrete with relativelly small holes (about 15 cm) which let the sunshine go inside even when it looks like it doesnt during the day from outside. this means that those large windows aren't the only way how the sun goes in, otherwise it would have a lot of dark spaces.

thanks a lot for comment!
