Lily Fontai project for Fontai is nearing it's end. We've finished 100 pieces of three color silkscreen prints for the client (35x100cm, about 14"x40"), finished the logo and we're working on the last thing - microsite dedicated to Lily prints.

The whole Lily project is quite personal, for both us and the client. Signed posters are going to be used as gifts for some of Fontai's clients and friends. Lily herself is created as kind of an avatar, "AI" of Fontai. That's also why is her logotype placed into bubble / ear shape, she's the one who speaks and listenes.

Pictures taken by Dan Friedlaender (Visualscream), additional help with Lily's body design provided by Svetlana Kozhenova.

This is just incredible. Also the preview is amazing. I was wondering, do you need to be a drawer/painter to be able to make good logos ?

Thanks !

Thanks, glad you like it! Well, what does make you a drawer/painter? I'm sure one can be a bad painter and a good graphic designer at the same time, if that's what's your question about:)

Thanks for replying ! I just don't seem to be able to do sketches like most Pros ( like you ) do, in order to form a logo, instead I'm trying to do type treatments to already established fonts ( for example ), or modify shapes.. which seems ok at first glance and then I look up at your profile ( or else ) and I see how everything is made from scratch/handcrafted ( at least most times, right ? ) and I see how mine ain't sh*t, comparing.. Can you drop me some advices on branding/logo designs ? I'd really appreciate that. I'm an admirer !

Thanks in advance !

:) you don't need to do sketches by hand in order to create great logo. I used to do everything directly in computer cos I sucked at sketching too. As I'm getting older, I like hand-sketching more and more, but that's just a matter of what's your favorite way. Good logo or branding isn't about sketches, it's only something that may help you find what you search for. Similary, custom typography is just one thing that can make your brand more unique, and it's definetely one of the most laborous ones. Good identity is about combination of good concept and appropriate execution of this concept. It can be really simple and you can even use unaltered existing fonts only, and it may still be a great identity if you do it for good reasons and if it has relevance to what's the identity for. However, learning about type design (not that I have any proper education to speak about this), graphical shortcuts, geometry and so are all "ammunition" that may come handy one day, and will widen your abilities and understanding of the problem in general. For outstanding logos and branding, you probably need to be able to both think out of the box and to have graphic design skills that allows you to put your ideas into life.

Not only are the designs beautiful, but the arrangement you've used to present them is absolutely flawless! Very eye-catching and amazingly beautiful!
